In 2017 Ministry of Health of Kenya (MoH), Kwale County Government, Plan International Kenya and Shifo Foundation (Shifo) joined hands to improve maternal and child health information system, which would improve data quality and data use. The project is financially supported by Takeda CSR.

Smart Paper Technology Solution is currently being evaluated in Lunga-Lunga Sub-County, Kwale County.

Data for action interventions are being integrated at community, facility and sub-national level:

At the community level, SMS messages are automatically sent to families with children one day before the due date to remind them about their follow-up visit
Health workers receive monthly key performance indicators to help them understand their performance and what to improve
Decision-makers and planners at the county and sub-county level review the performance of the health facility using an integrated dashboard

Initial workshop in Kwale County bringing all partners together to discuss and agree on the roadmap of Smart Paper Technology in Kenya.

With Shifo, health workers recieve key performance indicators (KPIs) through SMS. They can plot this information on boards at their health facility so they can see what they performed well in and what needs to be improved.
